"NO TOBACCO, NO WORK"
Sir, —I could not allow "Miteryia's" letter to go unchallenged. My congratulations to him on his war effort to give up smoking—or has he? Then there is the fair sex, whp never seem to be without cigarettes. Good luck to them and to the miner. The man underneath goes, in many cases, from 8 to 4 without a smoke because of his deadly enemy—gas. He comes home tired out, and the only type of suitable relaxation for his nerves is a smoke. Had there been a shortage of tobacco things might have been different, but the fact that the men got some the following day shows there was tobacco for distribution in New Zealand. —I am, etc.,
