DEANS—JENSEN.
The wedding was solemnised at St. John's Church, Willis Street, on Saturday, August 21, between Nancy Joy, elder daughter of Mrs. E. Jensen, Wellington, and James Uglow, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Deans, St. Albans, Christchurch. The service was conducted by the Rev. Gladstone Hughes.
The bride was escorted by her uncle, Mr. V. Thwaites, and she wore a gown of ivory georgette with a bodice of chiffon velvet, and carried a bouquet of winter roses. Her tulle veil, lent by her cousin, Mrs. A. F. Herron, was held in place by a coronet of white roses. Her sister, Miss Marjorie Jensen, and Miss Edna Ingersoll were bridesmaids. They wore green embossed taffeta and carried posies of spring flowers.
Mr. J. Duffy was best man, and Corporal I. Jensen (2nd N.Z.E.F., on furlough) was groomsman. During the signing of the register "O Promise Me" was sung by Miss Phoebe Lawson, accompanied on the organ by Mr. Law* rence Haggitt. '"■ At the Victoria League Rooms the guests were received by the bride's mother, who was assisted by Mrs. Deans. Taking advantage of the presence of a number of returned men at the reception, the M.C., Mr. E. A. Herron, called on the guests to honour the toast of the 25th Battalion, in which the groom had also served. The response was made by Sergeant Trevor Smith of that battalion, home on furlough.
An address on the progress of the Maori mission cause was given at the thirty-fifth annual meeting of the Wellington Presbyteria] Association by the Rt. Rev. J. G. Laugh ton. The Rev. H. R. Fell presided. The reports showed an increase in membership and funds, and Mrs. Pellow, in speaking of these matters, said the year had been a record one.
Mrs. Lopdell, the retired president, was presented with Jolm Buchan's autobiography "Memory Hold the Door," and some fragrant plants for her garden. Mrs. Rowntree, who made the presentation, spoke of the great contribution over many years that Mrs. Lopdell had made to the strength of the Women's Missionary Union, not only in Wellington Presbytery, but in other parts of New Zealand. Mrs. Gladstone Hughes, the newly-elected president, was welcomed, also Mrs. E. Chappell as secretary and Mrs. I. Gellatly as treasurer.
THE LEPERS' CHRISTMAS
In order to make Christmas a time of happiness for the lepers on Mako.gai Island, the Lepers' Trust Board (Inc.) is urgently in need of cash, and such goods as light new material for women and children's clothes, silks and embroidery cottons, sunshades, light umbrellas, singlets, shirts, new sandshoes, games, and games equipment of all sorts, tobacco, pipes, fishing gear, sweets, soap, children's illustrated books, and needlework magazines. All gifts may be left with the S. ( S. Williams Co., Ltd., 120-124 Lambton Quay, and will be acknowledged by the secretary of the Lepers' Trust Board, Mr. P. J. Twomey, of Christchurch.
i St. Patrick's College Old Boys. Old boys of St. Patrick's College and their friends are invited to the dance which the Parents' Association will hold at St. Francis . Hall tomorrow night, commencing at 8 o'clock. Small Girls' War Work. Four small girls at Karori, Elizabeth Airey, Robin Price, Louise Williams, | and Pamela Till, produced and staged a play in their suburb for patriotic i funds. The Metropolitan Patriotic Committee has received £3 2s 6d as a result of the effort. Mrs. Nash as Guest Speaker. A feature of the August meeting of the Brooklyn Townswomen's Guild was an interesting talk by Mrs. Walter Nash on her life at Washington. The musical programme consisted of items by the Glee Circle and solos by Mrs. Roberts.
