HONEY RATIONED

SUPPLIES TO SHOPS

For some months honey supplies in Wellington have been distributed by the Internal Marketing Department to grocers and dairies on the basis of their regular butter purchases, and it was stated officially today that there is 'sufficient honey in hand for this allocation to continue for some time— certainly until the arrival of the new season's supplies in December.' The reason for basing honey supplies on butter purchases was that the amount of honey* bought through these shops was found to be a fairly accurate indication of family trade. The question of increasing the allocation will not arise until about February, when supplies are usually heavier, but in the meantime the policy of the Department is to ensure a fair distribution of honey for family use, with particular attention to the needs of children and invalids.
