CONCESSIONS SOUGHT
I Because of the disabilities suffered": in comparison with the rest of the* communities, war amputees are asking, J through their association, for conces-j sions in taxation, pensions, retirementprovisions, and travelling privileges^ Resolutions passed by the annual conference of the association now m^ session at Wellington asked that national superannuation should.be available to war amputees at the age of 55 years, and that the exemption of payment ox . the quarterly levy (ss) now-granted the 100 per cent, pensioner of the 1914----18 war ibe extended to the 100 per cent, pensioner/of the present war v -Other remits asked that a pension! y of £1 a week be paid to the wife of an : amputee irrespective .of his earnings v or income; that a 100 per cent, pension; be paid to all amputees for a perod^f at least six: months after the fitting of an artificial limb;, that-all war amputees temporarily granted IOCr per cent, pensions for three months or more be granted the privilege of a r railway pass for that period; andthata war amputee pensioner engaged ai.tne Government service be given the rignt to retire on 35 years' service or at 55 years of-age, superannuation to be based on salary at time of retirement - and on a 40-60 basis. Officers of the association were elected as follows:—President, Mr. F. C Allei-by; district vice-presidents, Mr. T C. Browne (Auckland), Mr. L. E. Norriss (Wellington) Mr. C. Deßenzy (Canterbury-Westland), Mr. C. E. ±i r Wilson (Otago-Sputhland); executive committee, Mr. A.: T. Jackman (Auckland) , Mr. W. y. Land (Wellington), Mr A E. Ogilvie ■ (Canterbury-West-land), Mr. J.",G. Tandy (Otago-South-land); hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. K. S. Henry; hon. auditor, Mr.' C. A. Sadler;" hon. solicitor, Mr. A .T. Duncan; representative, N.Z. Disabled Ser^ vicemen's Re-establishment League, Mr. F. C'Allerby; pensions sub-com-mittee, N.Z.R.S.A., Mr. F. C. Allerby. On the question of rehabilitation the conference passed a remit asking "that, having regard to the serious problem of the.jre-establishment of ex-soldiers in civil occupations, this important work is the duty of the State and should be administered by a State Department, preferably a Rehabilitation Department."
