GENERAL ELECTION
ADDRESS BY MAJOR SKINNER
p.A. DUNEDIN, This Day. The new Minister,-of Rehabilitation, Major Skinner, spoke in the Town Hall last night. A considerable portion of his address bore on New Zealand's part in the Middle East campaign and a reassurance as to the application of the Land Sales Act, which, he said, was an honest endeavour to stabilise land values. He scouted the idea that the Government was paving the way to take farmers' properties, but said that land values could not be pegged without making the powers all-embrac-ing, otherwise loopholes would have •been left for some to wriggle through. The Government would not abuse its powers under the Act. The audience accorded votes of thanks and confidence in the Government.
