SOVIET STUDENTS

"Soviet Students and Universities" was the subject of Sunday afternoon's lecture at the New Zealand Society for Closer Relations with Russia, the speaker being Miss Cecil .Crompton, winner of the 1942 Plunket Oratory Medal. Miss Crompton gave a vivid picture of university life in Russia, stressing the close co-operation between teaching staff and students, the complete equality of men and women, and the combination of practical and theoretical work. She told also, of the recent Soviet students' delegation to Washington, where they stayed with Mrs. Roosevelt in'the White House, and linked the part Russian students are playing in the war with the struggle of students throughout the world.
