CONSCIENCE CASES
REHEARING OF APPEALS
Under amendments made to the National Service Emergency Regulations on May 14 an appellant whose appeal against service in the armed forces on the ground of conscientious objection had been heard before that date, and not allowed, may apply for a rehearing. In drawing attention to this last evening the Director of National Service (Mr. Hunter) said that any application made under this provision should be in writing addressed to the chairman of the appeal board which heard the appeal. Applications were required to be made within 14 days of the passing of the amendment and should, therefore, be posted not later than May 27. It was to be noted that the provision applied only to conscientious objectors' appeals which had actually been heard before May 14 and which had not been allowed.
