MR. C. F. TURNER
The death has occurred in Christchurch of Mr. C. F. Turner, who was formerly manager of the firm of Messrs. John Mill and Co.. Wellington. Mr. Turner, who was born in Christchurch in ?866, was educated at Christ's College, and served for some time on the staff of the Bank of New Zealand, Christchurch. He was later with the firm of C. W. Turner, shipping and general merchants. When the Blackball Coal Company's mine commenced operations in 1893 he joined the staff, and afterwards was transferred to Wellington as shipping manager and subsequently as branch manager at Wellington. Mr. Turner was connected with various coal merchants' associations, and also held executive positions on shipping and port labour organisations. He was keenly interested in aquatic sport, being an active rower in his early years, and later a member of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association. His active interest in music was reflected in the number of appointments he held as church organist. For a number of years he was a member of St. Paul's ProCathedral choir.
