MR. MENZIES' VISIT
TODAY'S ACTIVITIES
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, This Day. The Australian Prime Minister. Mr. Menzies, was in conference with the Acting Prime Minister (Mr. Nash) and Mr. Sullivan- throughout the forenoon and afterwards lunched with them. At 2.30 he deposited a wreath at the Cenotaph, and from there went to Fort Bastion to lay a wreath on the tomb of the late Prime Minister, Mr. Savage. Later he was accorded a civic reception at the Town Hall.
An amusing incident was related in the Magistrate's Court today when a man was charged with being on licensed premises after hours. A constable described how he saw the defendant leaving the hotel, and how he had chased and caught him. When accosted, the man said that he had just purchased a bottle of spirits for a sick person. "I asked him if he had it on him," said the constable, "and he said 'Yes,' and produced a bottle of cocktail." (Laughter.) A fine was imposed
