FRENCH OIL TANKER

LONDON, May 22

Mr. Eden's announcement of British policy towards Vichy was preceded by the news that a French oil tanker which was carrying oil from a United States port to Casablanca, in French North Africa, had been intercepted and taken in charge by British naval patrols in ihe Atlantic.

The assistance given to the Germans by the Vichy Government in Syria was mentioned by Mr. Attlee, Lord Privy Seal, who told the House that there was good reason to believe that the assistance included the supply of certain French equipment to the rebel forces in Irak.
