BUTCHERS' CLAIMS
The dispute in Conciliation Council before the Conciliation Commissioner, Mr. M. J. Reardon, for a new award for workers in butchers' shops has been concluded and the partial agreement reached has been sent on to the Arbitration Court. Almost complete agreement was reached by the parties, and only two major points, on one of which the parties are in agreement, will be argued in court. One is the clause dealing with wages, and the other is the suggested application of the award to the closing hours of shops other than butchers' shops which sell small goods. Both parties claim that such shops should be compelled to close at the same lime as butchers' shops. The shops concerned were represented at the dispute by Mr. J. R. Hanlon, who argued that the proposed award could not apply to shops or workers outside Ihe butchering trade and asked the Commissioner to refer the point to the Court.
