ON PROBATION

NO SUBVERSIVE ACTIVITY

WANGANUI, This Day
Cyril John Holdershaw, carpenter, aged 23, a member of the Communist Party, found guilty of having stickers in his possession with a view to making or facilitating publication of a subversive statement, was admitted to probation by his Honour, Mr. Justice Smith, for three years. The terms included that Holdershaw is immediately to notify the Communist Party in writing that he will now sever and will keep severed his connection with it for the period of his probation; that he is to satisfy the probation officer that he has given this notice, provided that, if peace is made between the British Empire and its enemies before the period of probation expires this condition shall not continue to operate thereafter; that during the period of probation he is to keep the peace and be of good behaviour, and in particular is [to refrain from any activity of. a i seditious or subversive character.
Holdershaw was ordered to pay £38 5s owing to the Government for his passage from England, and £7 14s 6d, costs of the prosecution.
