PLANNING AHEAD

PROTECTION SOCIETY'S

WORK

The first meeting of the Wellington Society for the Protection of Women and Children under the presidency of Mrs. John O'Shea was held recently in the.society's rooms.

It was decided to accept the kind offer of Mrs. H. G. R. Mason to give the use of her drawing-room and lounge in her home, 52 Hobson Street, for the purpose of holding a party in aid of the society's funds, which are much in need of replenishing. The party will take place near the end of this month in the afternoon, and a number of special attractions are being planned. It was also decided to try and get permission to hold a "copper trail" at an early date, and to find friends to staff the trail. It is hoped that the young girls will come forward and give their kindly and particularly helpful services for this object.

Mrs. Forde, who has lately taken over the office of honorary treasurer, said that she had had excellent assistance from Mr. J. Hamilton in going through the books to put her in full understanding of the work.

It was agreed that drawing-room meetings should be held in some of the suburbs as requests had come from some of the residents who were at the recent annual meeting and were interested in the work. It was agreed to hold these with due regard to the privacy of the work and the people concerned. , A large number of cases were dealt with. Mrs. Forde reported that a gratifying number of subscriptions and donations had been handed to her.
