BRITISH SECRECY

HELP FOR GREECE

ENEMY KEPT GUESSING

LONDON, October 31

One thing that seems to be bothering the Axis Powers is the secrecy being maintained about Britain's strategic moves to help Greece.

Axis propagandists have been trying to draw the British and have been proclaiming on the one hand that Britain has abandoned her Grecian ally and on the other that strong forces of British aircraft are expected in Greece at any moment. Nobody is deceived by these manoeuvres. The Greek Government knows what is being done and is perfectly satisfied, and Britain has no intention of giving the enemy any information about the way in which this is being rendered.

The suggestion is also made that Greece should make an early peace with Italy, with the hope of tricking Greece into abandoning her resistance on the ground-"that British help, despite British promises, has not been forthcoming. These rumours are being met with scorn, and the fact that the Greek resistance has so far prevented any major Italian advance is giving great encouragement to the people.

In Athens it is pointed out that the Greek forces have not been defeated, and even if they were overwhelmed by superior numbers and equipment Greece would never capitulate, but in the words of her King would "fight on to the end in confidence of ultimate victory."
