EXCURSION TRIP

MARLBOROUGH PEOPLE

Today is Maryborough's anniversary, and this morning the Tamahine brought 760 passengers to Wellington to spend about six hours in the city. The ship was "dressed" for the occasion with a string of flags from each mast. As the Tamahine came up the harbour all the passengers wanted to be on one side, with the result that when she turned to come into her berth at the' Queen's Wharf she had a decided list to port.

The trip from Picton was made in smooth water and was thoroughly enjoyable. The weather here was gloriously fine.

No sooner were they off the ship than many ofi the passengers were claimed by relatives and friends, several hundreds of whom were' waiting outside the barriers on the wharf to meet them. Others of the visitors sauntered off to look, at the shops and no doubt to do some shopping. There was every indication that they would have a pleasant day. They are to leave again at 4.30 this afternoon.

Owing to the Labour Day holiday falling this week, said one of the passengers, today was not being observed as a holiday by the shops in Blenheim, and this undoubtedly had had some effect on the number of visitors.
