ACCOMMODATION FOR MEN ON LEAVE
(To the Editor.) Sir, —Last Saturday night a number of men on leave from Trentham Camp were unable to obtain accommodation in Wellington unless they were prepared to pay 15s for the night, which the hotels were asking; this, of course, they could not afford. I am informed by some of these men who visited the British Sailors' Society rooms that between fifty and a hundred who had missed the last train back to Trentham, before realising that accommodation was unprocurable, had to spend the night in tramway sheds and rail carriages. If our city fathers could arrange for an accommodation bureau, similar to that in use during the Centennial Exhibition, it would go a long way towards overcoming this problem. As I understand the men are only coming in once a fortnight, I am sure there would be many people who would be able to give one of thei Armed Forces a bed and breakfast, | especially as many of these boys come from other parts of New Zealand.—l; am, etc., N. W. THOMAS, ; Hon. Secretary, British Sailors' Society, j
