BAGPIPES FOR TROOPS
IN ACTIVE SERVICE OVERSEAS
A Wellington resident has received a letter from a New Zealander on active service in England, informing him that the bagpipes presented to the 22nd Battalion, sth Brigade, Second N.Z.E.F., are playing a big part in manoeuvres in the Homeland. Piper J. H. P. Calson is company piper to the Wellington Company of the 22nd Rifle Battalion, an 1 is using the pipes presented by the Wellington Association of Scots Societies. The pipers of the other provincial companies are using pipes presented by their own societies. These company pipers form a band of six pipers and five drummers,, and are kept fairly busy as individual pipers on route marches and in camp as a band. Terry Broad, of the Manawatu Pipe Band, is in charge of the drummers and Stuart Cameron, of the Wanganui Pipe Band, is in charge of the pipers. The writer states that Cameron is doing great work and has improved the band out of sight. Scotsmen in the Wellington Province, are hoping to be able to furnish the reinforcements with additional pipes and assist' the soldiers. Any person who has bagpipes for disposal is asked to get into touc" with Mr. M. Gray Nasmith (Wellington), or Mr. B. Ebbett, secretary of the Pipe Band Centre, Palmerston North.
