SIR CAMERON A STAYER
Sir Cameron, who was responsible for a minor surprise when he upended the favourites in the Great Northern Guineas, had previously shown up promisingly by coming from a long way back to secure the minor money in the Avondale Guineas recently. On this occasion he was near the rear of the field in the early stages but had moved into fourth place approaching the turn, at which stage he went up smartly to soon settle the leaders and go on to a comfortable victory. Sir Cameron, who was purchased by Mr. R. Cuthbert for 220 guineas at the yearling sales in 1939, is a splendid type of three-year-old by the Son-in-Law horse Posterity from the imported mare Mirabelle 11, and is thus a half-brother to Theio, who won among other races the A.J.C. Derby, V.R.C. Derby, and V.A.T.C. Caulfield Guineas. Mirabelle II is a daughter of Kroonstad, whose mares in England have produced winners of over £29,000 in stakes, including that great stayer Brown Jack.
