WAITAHU GOLD PROFITS.
The Waitahu Gold Mining Co., Ltd., reports a profit for the year ended July 31 of £2910, which, after the balance brought forward, makes a total of £ 5440. A dividend of 2d a share paid in February required £1333, and £125 was provided for income tax, leaving £ 3981 available. The directors recommend a further dividend of 2d a share, and that the balance be carried forward. '■■■■■.
Defence expenditure by Australia in the present financial year is' estimated at £179,402,658, which is equivalent to over £25 per head of population. Last year's expenditure was £54,327,387. The sum of £33,924,759 will be spent abroad; compared with £12,004,142 last year.
