Berhampore Levin Memorial Home.

The Levin Memorial Home for girls at Berhampore will hold its annual gift tea at the home on Thursday, commencing at 3 p.m. The committee responsible for the direction of the home comprises Miss Archibald (president), and Mesdames Gillespie, Poole, E. Luke, C. Levin, Willoughby, Meek, Johansen, Dv Pont, and Misses Barry, McLeod, D. Greenwood, and Young. These ladies have been very busy making preparations for the gift tea. There will be produce, sweets, flowers, cakes, etc., for sale, and those who attend the function will find it not only pleasant but also profitable.

Mrs. D. J. Davies at Victoria League.

The Victoria League's big room was gay with flowers last night when Mrs. D. J. Davies gave a talk on her experiences in England in the early days of the war. As a token of appreciation of her kindness in coming to address the members, Mrs. J. A. Doctor, president, presented her with a bouquet. Mrs. Doctor stated that arrangements were being made to have speakers at morning meetings as a number of members were unable to be present at other times. Songs were sung by Mrs. E. Wiltshire, Mrs. G. Spink being her accompanist, and the league's song and the National Anthem were sung by the assemblage. The Junior Drama League's Xew Plan. It was decided at a meeting of the Junior Drama League held recently to reorganise the society along slightly different lines by forming children's dramatic cix-cles in as many different localities as possible, under the controlof local, organisers and committees. Regular play readings and productions will be held in each area, and the children trained in dramatic art. Talks and demonstrations will also be given from time to time, and, if possible, a Junior Drama Festival will be arranged annually. Organisers so far appointed are as follows: Karori, Mrs. Holthouse; Hataitai. Madame Bligh; Johnsonville, Mrs. Ring; Eastbourne.Miss Mather. Organisers for other areas will be arranged for as soon as possible, but the groups already formed will begin their activities immediately. Levin Institute Entertains. Many visitors attended a social afternoon held by the Levin Women's Institute recently. Items were given by Mesdames Devine and Lankshear and Misses Aim, E. Bradley, and A. Clarke, and the institute choir, conducted by Mrs. Powell. Mesdames Mew and Allen were the accompanists A sales' table was in charge of Mesdames Bates and Burt, and there was a competition for an iced cake donated by Mrs. I Small. The president referred to the | sad and sudden death of a valued member, Mrs. Bignall, who had done valuable work for the institute over a number of years. Mothers' Helpers. Mrs. G. W. Guthrie presided at the meeting of the Mothers' Helpers, held {yesterday afternoon at 57 Ballance 'Street. Donations were gratefully /acknowledged from the T. P. Macarthy Trust, and Mrs. Burnell Browne. Those present included Mesdames .V. L. Palmer. J. McParland. D. A. S. Ward, S. Lyon, M. Reid, and H. H. Turner. Wartime Committee's Organiser. When the wartime committee of the Women's National Reserve met recently Mrs. W. H. Gledhill was elected organiser of the reserve for the Wellington Metropolitan Patriotic Committee's street days. A high tribute^ was paid her and her workers for the excellent l-esult of the street day in August. Floral Tributes Presented. Mrs. M. Houston, of the London Foot Hospital, gave an instructive address on the "Foot of the Growing Child" at a recent meeting of the Karori branch^of the League of Mothers. The speaker was presented with a floral tribute. Flowers were also presented to Mrs. Wcstbrooke, who contributed j musical items; to Mrs. Urquhart, who I presided, and to Mrs. Dinnie on her retirement from the secretaryship, which office she had filled during the past two years. Musical items were given by the choir. Remembered In New Zealand New Zealand has an interesting link with Admiral E. G. R. Evans ("Evans of the Broke," of Great War fame), who has been appointed to organise the London shelter arrangements. He was a prominent member of Antarctic expeditions which set out from this country for the south, and was second in command of the expedition under the late Captain R. F. Scott.. Admiral Evans's first wife was Miss Hilda Russell, of Christchurch, who was educated at St. ' Hilda's College, Dunedin, and who died on the way to England in 1913. In her memory the admiral had a window placed in St. Hilda's College. Townswomen at Alicetown. Mrs. Henry occupied the chair, and Mrs. Haverfield acted as secretary, when members controlled the recent meeting of the Alicetown Townswomen's Guild. Mrs. Freeman demonstrated floral work. Competitions were judged before afternoon tea, and afterwards Mrs. Green gave a talk on music and composers, illustrated by songs, the soloists being Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Leibezeit, Mrs. Paton playing the accompaniments. Hot-water bag covers, submitted for competition, havc> been sen-t to the Red Cross.
