CAIRO, October 6

An R.A.F. communique states that anti-aircraft guns at Malta broke up an Italian formation of planes, whereupon fighters shot down one machine and severely damaged another.

The South African Air Force hit barracks at Mega. The British planes returned safely from all these operations.

Yesterday Mersah Matruh was raided by enesy- bombers escorted by fighters, causing, three casualties and little damage. Awti-aircraft fire hit one plane and is believed to have damaged two others. There is nothing to report on the other fronts.
