JAPAN-AXIS CHALLENGE
WILL BE TAKEN UP
TWO-OCEAN DEFENCE PLAN
LONDON, October 6,
Just before the call-up of the United States naval reservists, Colonel Knox declared that the United States must be able to meet enemies far away from the shores of America and defeat them in both oceans at once.
The Axis alliance with Japan, he said, was aimed at the United States, and if a fight was forced on the United States he would take up the challenge.
In August the United States exported nearly two and a half million dollars worth of small arms and ammunition. Eighty per cent, went to Britain and Canada, and will be ready for use by the 500,000 fully-trained soldiers Canada will have by next June.
