National Club's Patriotic Work
There is no diminishing in the popularity of the 5.30 tea dances given by the National Union at the . National j Club on Saturday evenings, and many men of the Services were entertained there again this weekend. Misses Hazel Robinson and Josephine Russell were in charge of the dining-room helpers, who included Misses ' June Saint, Shirley Spears, Pat Munro, and Annette Gunn. On Sunday the women of the Wellington West electorate wei-e in charge. The convener, Mrs.' O. Finch, was assisted by Mesdames A. S. Morley and A. Taylor, and Misses T. Peckston, D. Wallburton, M. Ward, 'L. Whittaker, E. F. McLean, and F. Douglas. Party for "Every Other Wednesday" Circle. Mrs. E. J. Moore and Mrs. J. Thornley recently entertained at their home members of the "Every Other Wednesday" Circle of the Pioneer Club. The lounges wore beautifully decorated with rhododendrons and flag lilies, while in the dining-room, where supper was served, multi-coloured flowers predominated. Much time was spent in the "witches' den," presided over by Mesdames Moore and Thornley and the Misses Gold. The lovely china and engravings belonging to the hostesses were greatly admired by the guests. Miss A. Woodhouse, circle president, thanked the hostesses for their hospitality. Those present were Mesdames M. E. Gillman, G. King, Weir, F. Vosseler, H. Hansen, K. McDonald, Daniel. J. Dickinson, B. Haines, J. Garrard. and D. Anderson, and Misses R. Harvey, A. Woodhouse, H. Taylor. M. Hanham, J. Daniel, I. Edwin, M. Saxton, Gold (2), V. Dawson. and M. Wilson. Spring' Fair. The successful spring fair held recently at Webb Street was organised by the women of the Methodist Church They were congratulated on the splendid display on the stalls by the Rev T. Skuse. who was introduced by the Rev. O. E. Burton. Musical items were j contributed by the Ladies' Sextet, and I the stall-holders were Mesdames Wolfgang and Marden (work), Janson and Gardiner, (cakes), Lowe (sweets and dolls) Bendall and Feltham (produce). Smith and Miss Tonkin (flowers), Miss Morris (oddments), Mesdames Magnussen, Boyce, and Getty (tearoom). Gift Tea At Karori. Those interested in the welfare of the I girls resident in the Levin Memorial j Home are reminded of the "Gift Tea" [ which will be held at the home, Ka-'l rori, on Thursday. October 10. Mrs. j J. A. Doctor will perform the opening j ceremony, and Miss M. H. Archibald j (president), Mrs. O. ll.■ Gillespie, and.; Miss D. Greenwood (vice-presidents) | will i^eceive the guest?. Further par- j ticulars are advertised. | Maori Girls' Patriotic L>a::^c. A very happy dance, organised by the Maori Grirls Club, was held in the Maori Hall, Hutt Road on Friday evening. The proceeds will go to support the fund for wool which the club members knit into a continuous supply of comforts for the Maori men serving with the Forces. With melodious part singing and items by the girls interspersed between the dancing, a pleasant and successful evening resulted. Mrs. M. Love was the convener.
