CILLAS CONSISTENT
Consistency was. a feature of the racing efforts of Cfflas last season when he raced most unluckily, for although hi won only one event he proved equal to securing third placings in both the i Great-Northern Foal and Great Northern Champagne Stakes, as the result of which he got up in the weights. He made his reappearance when he failed by only a head to reach Vohfox in the Kerepeehi Handicap at Paeroa last Saturday under the steadier of 9.4. but he was not long in making amends. for although saddled up with an extra 31b in the Waitakaruru Handicap on Monday he made short work of his opponents and was not extended over the last bit. The form naturally does not measure up to classic standard but even if he does not prove equal to holding his own in the Great Northern Guineas next week he impresses as a very promising performer, and should prove a profitable horse to follow this SjQJJSOII Cillas is a bay colt by that brilliant sprinter Diatomous, but he inherits stamina from his dam Monanui, who scored in races up to a mile and a half. She is a daughter of Te Monanui, who won among other distance contests the Mitchelson Cup, 1| miles, even though he was not equal to annexing either the New Zealand or Auckland Cups, in each of which he finished out of the money. In appearance Cillas has thrown to the maternal side of his family, being of the lean type, and, in spite of the fact that he is by a pure sprinter, middle distances may not prove beyond him when his powers are fully developed.
