A PROFITABLE PURCHASE

All Veil, who was runner-up to Auries Star when the South Australian sprinter was credited with running lmui B£sec at Flemington, turned the tables at Ascot in the Superior Handicap.

All Veil, who Is by the Limond horse Veilmonff, is owned by Kfes'srs. G. J. Barton and W. Balloch. Mr. Barton bought him without seeing him. He commissioned a Randwick trainer to bid up to 500 guineas for a yearling by Veilmond from Moochalong. The agent exceeded his instructions by going to 600 guineas, but did not secure the. colt. He took the next lot (now known as All Veil) at 375 guineas, and luck was on his side, as the Moochalong colt has not done nearly so well. Later Mr. Barton gave a halfshare in the eq-'.t io Mr. Balloch. All Veil has a peculiar trick of standing for hours with 3lis off hind leg tucked up undgr him.

At the West Australian Trotting Association's Meeting on August 31 Francisco, by Jack Potts, making her first appearance in Australia, won the Kununopypin Handicap, 2.21 class. Francisco, now owned by Mr. J. P. Stratton, president of the West Australian Trotting Association, was previously trained by M. B. Edwards at Yaldhurst, and later by F. J. Smith at Takanini. Other recent winners in Australia include Ayress, by Globe Derby—Ayr, and Lady Marigold, by Travis Axworthy—Lady Boronia.
