OLD BILL'S MISSION

Old Bill was a surprise omission from the list of nominations for the New Zealand Cup, but his connections always plan their races a long way ahead and the mission that has been specially set for him this season is the Auckland Cup, which will carry the largest stake-money of the year and is often a rather easier race to win than either the New Zealand or Wellington £lX).

In the meantime Old Bill is working along in satisfactory style at Awapuni. His next racing will probably be in weight-for-age events, the Harcourt Stakes, 11 furlongs, at Trentham, and the Canterbury Cup, 1* miles, at Riccarton, which will be excellent steps towards his big effort of the term among the handicappers at Ellerslie. Last season Old Bill had only four races, two of which he won, prior to his triumphant bid in the Wellington Centennial Cup. Old Bill's, part-owner, Mr. H. H. Pharazyn, who escaped from the Channel Islands just prior to the German occupation, is now on his way back to New Zealand, so that he should be ■here before the horse next races.
