Montessa, who won the N.Z. Oaks last Wednesday, is the third Australianbred filly to have succeeded in this classic, as Punka (wjio afterwards went to ' England) was the. victrl?c in 1918 and' Korokio in 1931. A. E. Ellis wag associated with both Korokio and Montessa in their wins. Montessa . wag - one. of> a lot, of yearlings offered for sale at Trentham in July twelve months ago by Mr. C. She is a brown daughter of the Phalaris horse Rrp^n (sire of Bronse Eagle, Panr dava, Kuvera,. Bronze*" Hawk, Brazen King. Airam. etc.) ."and ""her dam is the Linacre^Lady Egale mare Irolene, dam,also of the V,A,T.Cy Oakleigh Plate winner Ibrani, who was by another Phalaris horfe, Moabjte. Lady Egale, a daughter of Maltster, was closely related to the A.J.C.
