DR. J. B. CONDLIFFE

AMERICAN APPOINTMENT

UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA

Dr. J. B. Condllffe, Professor of Commerce at the London School of Economics, has accepted the Chair of Economics at the University of California. Negotiations haye been under way for over a year and came to finality prior to the outbreak of war. Mrs. Condliffe and their family will be going with him, and they are all leaving England on October 7. The Chair |which Dr. Condliffe is to fill was : vacated by Dr. Henry F. Grady, who has recently been appointed Assistant Secretary State. Dr. Condliffe will continue to work on international economic problems, and he has been asked to continue his work, with the International Chamber of Commerce and the Geneva Research Centre (which has lately reelected him as chairman), as well as with the Institute of Pacific Relations and the International Stiidies> Conference. He is writing the report of the Bergen session: of the latter body, and will continue to act as one of the three academic advisers of the I.P.R. The New Zealand Council of this organisation has asked Dr. Condliffe to represent it at the VictoriaVv: (8.C.) .icon-" ference in November; .'.V.
