CUP TRIALS
EVANS BAY SUCCESSES
Two of five or six trial races to be held to find Wellington's Sanders Cup representatives. and X class champions were sailed yesterday, and each resulted in a win for the Evans Bay Yacht and Motor-boat Club's Kitty, sailed by J. C. Bolland, with C. S. Morrison, R. D. Morrison, F. Harlen, and B. Jukes, comprising the crew.. The Tassie, the sole Plimmerton representative, sailed by G. Nimmo, and" the new Floclaire, representing Paremata, and sailed by the veteran Arthur Johnston, were equal in second place at the end of the day's racing, each gaining a second and a third. Points gained by the leading X class boats in the two races were:—Kitty, 16, Tassie 13, Floclaire 13, Vanguard 8. Anival 8.
The first two Idle Along trials were also held yesterday in conjunction with the Sanders Cup trials, and the best performance was that of the Evans Bay boat Riptide, sailed by E. Beck, R. Gray, and N. Wilson.. The Riptide gained a first and a third, and scored 24 points. The Tornado (C. Stutter) was second with 21, and the Valhalla (L. Williams) and Elaine (D. N. Tonks) were equal in third place on the day's racing, with 18 points each. Other points gained were:—The Cavalier 17, Damfino II 16, Idle Along 15, Vampire 10, Viking 9, Electra 8, Manon 7, Regaway. 3, Unique 0. . After the boisterous north-westerly of Saturday had caused the postponement of the trials- that afternoon, yesterday's weather was almost perfect, with a moderate southerly. All races started off Point Jerningham. The morning course was a windward and leeward one to the Shoal Buoy and back, and the afternoon a triangular one from the Point to Fraser Rock to a mid-harbour mark and back. RonaJellicoe boats did three rounds and Idle Alongs two in the afternoon race, and both classes only two in the morning. More rades will be sailed next weekend. F CLASS CONTESTS. Tassie went very well and had sailed into second place at the weather mark the first time, but with that position she had to be content. [ Throiijfh over-eagerness at the start Kitty and Vanguard each lost half a minute at tlie start of tho afternoon racing, but Kitty went quickly into tlie lead, her rivals being Floclaire and Tassie. Tlie last-named boat broke her backstay track, and finished third to Kitty's first and Floclaire's second. Valhalla and Damfino II fought it out nearly all the way at the head of the fleet in the morning Idle Along rnce. Valhalla finished first, and Vampire second, but thei latter was disqualified and second place went'to Damfino 11. Tornado, Unique, anad Kicctra were late in stalling. Unique did not finish. TAKAPUNA RACING. Cornwell Cup trials were held at the weekend at Kvans Bay. and the most .successful crew • wero E. Wagstaff and P. Tanner, who gained two firsts and a second ln the three races. More trials will ,be held.
