FARM MACHINERY

SHORTAGE EXPECTED

Although sufficient supplies of farm machinery and appliances are held in stock by Waikato merchants to meet the needs of the current dairying and the forthcoming harvesting seasons, the "Herald" correspondent reports that fears are entertained that there will be a shortage for next season owing to the effects of the import restrictions.

There is a shortage of steel for manufacturing plant locally, and unless this material is made available soon a reduction in staffs must result. Hay rakes are in short supply, and there is a complete ban on the importation of top-dressers. All the dealers are concerned about the future, and a good deal of unemployment in the farm implement trade is expected.
