THEFT ALLEGED

A SERIES OF CHARGES

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.

Charged in the Magistrate's Court today with the theft of two Hotehkiss machine-guns, two tripod mountings, two spare barrels, and one military service, rifle from the Drill Hall at Ashburton, two brothers, James-Mer-vyn Philp, aged 20, and William Lewis Philp, aged 24, pleaded not guilty. There were also a long series of charges relating to the conversion of motor-cars, motor-cycles, and trucks, and thefts and burglaries in Christchurch airid Mid-Canterbury. Both the accused were committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
