NEW POLITICAL PARTY
SOCIALIST EDUCATIONAL (By .Telegraph—Press. Association.) HASTINGS, July 30. "The name of. the newly-organised political party is the Socialist Educational Political Party, and its chief objective is the formation of a democratic movement to educate the people socially, politically, and economically, and to secure for the. people .he full result of their labour by constitutional and Parliamentary methods," stated the chief organiser, Mr. E. H. Dalley, after the first official meeting of the party in Hastings yesterday. "There was a good attendance of members," continued Mr. Dalley, who expressed himself as satisfied with the progress being made by the organisation in Hawke's Bay. . Among subjects discussed at the meeting was Mr. Nash's visit abroad. A report states that Mr. Nash's visit to moneylenders abroad is considered contrary to the mandate as given by the electors at the last General Election. Objection was made to secret methods employed by the Government, it being considered that it should take! the people into its confidence, and that! there should be nothing to hide. The following resolution was passed: "This meeting strongly protests against taxation being imposed on those who canont afford to pay it; it is also of the opinion that taxation should be j shouldered by industry and those best: able to pay." - A further resolution stated: "That I 3t be a" recommendation from the X meeting that the Government, which j apparently wishes to economise, should discontinue visits of Ministers abroad. It is stated that men are being put off Government works while these ex-1 penses are going on; the men should be retained; and the expenses of visits curtailed." The cost of clothing' and other in New Zealand as compared with Great Britain, the policy b'f the Government in sending Maori married workers away from their [homes, and the weakness of interna•tional finance and other subjects were (discussed.
