Cocktail Party Yesterday. Miss Kay Johnstone and Mr. Peter Cachemaille, whose engagement was announced yesterday, gave a .cocktail party yesterday evening for a very large number of their friends. Miss Johnstone's flat at Eccleston, Eeclestone Hill, was arranged with bowls* [of jonquils and Iceland poppies, and the jhostess was wearing a a lovely gown of black brocaded floral chintz. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. E. Shields-Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Coleridge, Mr. and Mrs. Pat Jaques, Misses Aroha Griffin; Wynne McKee s Valeric Clarkson, Freda Bedding • Marie Luoni, Mary Mules, Margaret Webster, Theresa yon Keisenberg, Nonie Glendinning, and Messrs. Lynn Randerson, Tom McGreevy, W. Coysh, Peter St. John, Brian McEwen, Peter Luxford, Trevor Lane, and Dr. Alan Tennent. Jewish Club Ball. The Jewish Club's annual ball, which is to be held at the Majestic ; Cabaret next Wednesday, August 2, j promises to be the most successful function ever held by the club. Music will be supplied by the Majestic orj chestra and special exhibition dances will be given by Mr. Southern Colledge and partner and Miss Marjorie Vause and ballet. An excellerit supper and ah enjoyable evening is assured to all friends. Club's Change of Name. The Aiicetown Women's Club held its annual general meeting last week, Mi's. Vinsen presiding - over a good attendance of members. The guest speakers for the afternoon were Mrs. Moran and Mrsi Benstead, who out- ' lined the aims and objects of the Townswomen's Guild movement. At the conclusion of the addresses a discussion took place between the mem- | bers and it was unanimously decided to become affiliated to the Dominion Federation of Townswomen's Guilds and the club in . the future to be known as the Aiicetown Townswomen's Guild. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—President, Mrs. Vinsen; vice-presidents, Mesdames Annear and Moat; secretary, Mrs. Longhurst; treasurer, Mrs. McCullam; librarian, Mrs. Napier; committee, Mesdames O'Shea, Christophers^ Hart, Wilson, Henry, Scotson, McDougall, Edser, and Hay. Postponed Tea Dance. The tea dance, arranged by Miss Phyllis Bates, which was postponed on July 27, will now take place in the ! Majestic Cabaret on Thursday, August I 10. ! Eastbourne Plunket Ball. Bridge parties and competition afternoons have been popular recently on I the eastern side of the harbour, as forerunners to the Eastbourne Plunket I ball, which is to be held on August 5. (Among those who have held parties are Mrs. J. Girdlestone, president of the local branch, and Mesdames' D. N. Isaacs, V. G. Jervis, A. P. King, D. Hall, F. Gosling, ■N, H. Brown, H. F. Underhill, F. C. Craig, and Miss E. Isaacs. This year the ball is to take I a military turn and the decorations committee is making good progress under Miss E. Stace, who is well
known for her artistic talent. The home-made supper is in the charge of Mrs. D. N. Isaacs and Mrs. A. E. Burch, who are assisted by a large committee. As all arrangements for the ball are being carefully planned, it should be a great success, and it is expected that many town friends will be present. Busy Auxiliary. There was a good attendance of members of the V.M.C.A. Ladies' Auxiliary (boys' division) at a recent meeting; at which Mrs. Brooker presided. Mr. j i Jones came along to thank the ladies' for the success of the liberation cam-! paign. It was stated that the trading' scheme is still going ahead, and the re-i suits are very pleasing. Arrangements I were made for the coming bridge evening in August, and for the "shopping day" to be held in the lounge on August 11. There is a jumble sale for September, also a picture evening probably in the same month. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Briggs, Rough, Steptoe, and Parnell,
