MIDWEEK DANCES
LOWER HUTT CARNIVAL
'During the week several more functions have taken place at Lower Hutt i.h, support of. the various- "queens" in the; Lower Hutt Queen Carnival contest.
There were over '300 supporters of the; "North" Queen," Miss Flora Ferfettii at a" dance held on Wednesday night at the Caita Hall. Miss Joy August, "Eastern Queen," and Miss Vivi'ehne Platt, "Western Queen," vvere -present in the early part of the evening. -?fpvelty: items, ,in the form of a otie-wbeeled bicycle act, and ventriliquistiv were given by Messrs. J. Biggs 'arid -Ginger Watkins. An enjoyable lugger was served in the special room aside for this purpose. Mr.'Jack Clayton was master of ceremonies. 'A%aorig: those present were Mr. and M^irSi-Jv Weir, Mr. and Mrs. F. Gorrie, Mr;' and. Mrs. R. Pescini; Misses D. Weirv-E. Jenkins, W. Pritchard I. Adam; Mesdames Ray Brown (chairwoman}, W. CARDS AND DANCING. Supporters of Miss Roil a Burtpli attended" the first of the fortnightly dances ill her honour, which was also pn Wednesday evening: The Eastern and Western Queens were present, after having been presented at the north function. Mr. Charles Strong, chairman of the committee, introduced the three "queens," and said how pleased he. was at the.progress.; being made by • t>e,.districts in-, their individual efforts to-.top-the poll. The workshops dining-room, where the dance was held, was : very elaborately decorated iti preparation for the forthcoming annual Workshops Ball. Mr. W. Smith was M.C., and a very good orchestra played popular dance numbers. Those present included Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Burton' Mr. and Mrs. W. Smith, Mr..and Mrs. P. M. Ryan, Mr. and Mrs. Lennie, Mr. and Mrs F. Parr, Mr. and Mrs, E. Marsh all,. Mr. and Mrs. McKeown, Mr. and Mrs. Todd, Mr. and Mrs. Keys, Mr. and Mrs". C. Strong. The weekly "500" tourney, also in support of Miss Burton, was held in the^cosily-heated schoolroom of the workshops.oh Thursday evening, when the : largest number of players yet to attend ...was present. The capable management of the games, and a wellprepared supper, were in the hands of the special card committee.' consisting ol Messrs. H. Todd, F. Topham, E. Marshall, and T. Lorinie The chairman of this committee, Mr. H. Todd, thanked the supporters of the queen for their attendance. Miss Burton was among.the players.
