TRAVEL CLUB

CENTENNIAL ACTIVITIES

The membership of the Wellington Travel Club now stands at 803, according to the annual report, and the year has been one of successful progress. "When members read the list of distinguished and interesting visitors from overseas and from our own Dominion who have been entertained at our receptions," the report continues, 'it must be recognised that the club has filled a very important function for the city. By holding out the hand of friendship and goodfellowship, our activities for the benefit of visitors have very favourable reactions in the interests of the city, and we know that creates a good impression about Wellington in the minds of visitors to >ur Dominion. "During the fourth year of the club's activities, the Centennial of New Zealand will be celebrated, and the Centennial Exhibition to be held in Wellington will be responsible for bringing from overseas important visitors to conferences, and also visitors on private tours. "The club will play an important part in the reception and entertain^ ment of such visitors, and it is hoped that during the coming year more evening parties and receptions will oe held. Already it has been suggested that we should welcome the delegates from the Pan-Pacific Women's Conference, which will be f held in Wellington in January of next year. Delegates to other conferences will be welcomed and every facility will be given them to make contact with the particular society, social work, or industry! in which they are interested." The deaths of Sir Thomas Wilford, a I vice-president of the club, and of Mr. A. Samuels, a member, are recorded j with deep regret. mmammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmimmm*
