COMMUNIST ACTIVITIES

Unrest amongst the native races in India as the result of Communist propaiganda was mentioned by Lieutenant L. D. Maling, of the llth Sikh Regiment, who returned on leave by the Wanganella today, as one of the principal present-day troubles in the Eastern Empire.. "This Communist propaganda is being spread by young Indians who have been trained in Soviet Russia," he said in an interview with "The Fost." There was no sign of Nazi propaganda in that part of India where he had been stationed. Lieutenant Maling is a New Zealander and his home is in Christchurch. He is at present enjoying triennial leave. He has been six years in India. He said that his regiment had seen active service on the North-West Frontier, but otherwise he was reticent about his military- work. The. llth Sikh Regiment is at present stationed in Bengal.
