MR. NASH CONFIDENT

RAISING OF LOAN

PAYMENT FOR BRITISH

GOODS

STERLING AVAILABLE

(By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright.) (Received July 3 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, July 2. The New Zealand Minister of Finance (Mr. W. Nash), interviewed! by the "Daily Telegraph," said he was confident that the £17,000,000 loan will be satisfactorily arranged, and added that sterling will be available to pay for imports from Britain. He said that he is exploring the possibilities of a defence loan. The City Editor of the "Daily Mail" says that Mr. Nash aims at a £6,000,000 defence loan and a £10,000,000 loan in order to establish secondary industries. He added: "An error for which the present Government cannot be blamed was the fixing of a single date for repayment of the £17,000,000 loan instead of two dates, say in 1940 and in 1960, which would give greater scope for conversion or renewal. Single dates for redemptions involving £73,000,000 are also fixed for 1940, 1944, 1946, 1947, and 1949. Two other loans totalling £30,000,000 have optional dates."
