Considering the muddy state of the ground the standard of play was high, especially in the first half, and it was not until the closing stages that there was too much bunching. Huia started off with plenty of confidence, and it was not long before they scored, Jackson taking a centre from the right wing on the full and sending it into goal. Displaying plenty of willingness, Hutt gave almost as good as they received, but the difference lay in their inability to force home their attacks once they reaced the circle. Eventually, however, Bullen sent home a long shot from the edge of the circle, but Hula were soon ahead again, Dentice taking the ball away on bis own and scoring. Play was harder In .the second half, and Kelly netted another for Huia after a series of hearty scrimmages. A penalty bully awarded in the Huia circle gave Hutt a chance to -pick up a goal, but Marshall, who had been giving a good account of himself throughout the match, cleared satisfactorily, the final score being Huia 1 3, Hutt 1. i Messrs.
