- -. MELBOURNE, July 1. On the opening day of the V.R.C. National Meeting the following was the result of the GBAND NATIONAL HURDLES, . £2000; 3 miles. L. Street's b g Green Cape, by Ethlopißn-*-Capeless, aged, 9.8 (Dummett); i Restford, 8.0 <FuUarton) 2 Cape Race, 9.7 (Bracken) 3 Fourteen horses started. ■ Nevizes .made the early running from Ringford, Bobken, and Green Cape. The lastnamed came up: in the; final round and moved into second place/ ■ and tijen came Pooley Bridge and Restf ord. With half a mile to go-Green Cape took charge from Cap© Race and Restford. Green Cape led into' the straight from Restfo?d and easily beat that rival by three lengths and a half, with Cape Race two lengths away. The time was smin 49Jsec. KENSINGTON STEEPLECHASE, £500; about 2 miles and half a furlong. J.
