HIGH SCORING
SWIFTS' NARROW WIN
The Swifts-Hospital encounter provided a feast of goals, eleven being scored. Both teams were at full strength. Swifts had Chapman, the ex-New Zealand and Otago representative, at centre-half. Winning the toss. Swifts had the advantage of the sun and wind, and it was evident that they were out to make the pace. Twenty minutes of hard battling found both goals intact, but the next fifteen minutes provided thrills galore, six goals being scored. Swifts first took the. lead when Heath scored from a pass by Baker Hospital immediately retaliated by forcing a corner, Lawler placing for Trewick to head in. Swifts came straight back and, following a mix-up between the Hospital backs, Shankie goaled. Swifts, with a lightning move, increased their lead, Shankie scoring again. From the kick-off Hospital forced a corner and from the flag kick were i awarded a penalty, from which Jeffery scored. ' Hospital were back again within a minute and | Trewick, securing in midfield, hoodwinked both' full-backs and made the score 3 all. Heath again increased the score and Swifts led 4-3 at half-time. Hospital's reputation as a second-half team has not been earned this season, but with the Swifts' defence feeling the pace in the concluding stages the home team showed to i advantage and almost saved the game. Swifts' forward line were frequently breaking through Hospital's defence by good combined play, which resulted in Heath and Shankie scoring in quick succession. Hospital then made strenuous efforts to save the game and added twogoals through Lawler, the final score being Swifts 6, Hospital 5.
