"If, as we anticipate, Government restriction of the importation of manufactured clothing results in a greatly increased demand for locally made goods, Wellington factories will be faced with a serious labour shortage," said the proprietor of one manufacturing business.
"You can see by your own advertising columns," he added, "that there has been a demand for girls for the clothing trade for a considerable period now. Perhaps this difficulty is confined to Wellington, but, even so, shortage of labour in the section of the clothing trade domiciled here would appreciably affect the output of the industry as a whole in New Zealand."
