LONG FAST
CLAIM OF WORLD RECORD
AN AUCKLAND RESIDENT
(Special to the "Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, This Day. A fast of 102 days has been accomplished b} an elderly Auckland resident, Mr. F. W. Popham, of Hohipere Lane, Upper Symonds Street. Mr. Popham commenced the long fast on September 24 for the benefit of his health. He has been under the [Supervision of three doctors and intends to claim his feat as a world's record. "My weight on September 24 was i 16st 10_lb," he stated yesterday, "and on New Year's Day it was down to list 101b, a loss during the 100 days of 70_1b." It was Mr. Popham's original intention to fast until January 1, but he feels that he can carry on for a little while longer. Sixty-nine years old, he appears to be in excellent health. He said he had taken nothing during his fast but an occasional glass of water or cup of tea.
Mr. Popham gave a lecture to a large audience in an Auckland theatre on Sunday evening, when medical evidence was given that the fast was genuine.
