HUTT VALLEY CLUB

AT ARTHUR'S PASS

Members of the Hutt Valley Tramping Club "who were camped in the Arthur's Pass district returned this morning well satisfied with their tenday holiday.

A base camp wa_ established on a grassy flat in the Bealey Valley opposite the junction of the Mingha Stream. The weather, on the whole, was fairly good; snow fell on Christmas Day.

Large parties visited the Edwards and Mingha Valleys and climbed a number of peaks. Heavy snowfalls and avalanche conditions made climbing on the higher peaks more difficult than is usual at this time of the year, but small parties made ascents of

Mts. Isobel, Philistine, Temple, and Phipps Peak. Two members made an ascent of Mt. Franklin by a new route from the Otehahe Valley.

Twenty-two members made a fourday trip from the camp to Hokitika via the Harman, Whitehorn, and Browning Passes. This excursion was the high light of the trip and it is thought that the party is by far the largest to have followed this "three-pass" route.

All members expressed their appreciation of the leadership of Mr. T. Tebbutt.
