LABOUR SERVICE
GERMAN GIRLS
ALL UNDER 25 LIABLE
BERLIN, January 3,
Every German girl must in future "serve the people" for a year. Hitherto only those engaged in certain occupations were liable for labour service. Now the order has been extended to all unmarried girls under the age of 25. It will affect 300,000 or 400,000 each year, and these may be employed in industry, agriculture, or the household.
The measure. is due to the labour shortage, which is also leading to the compulsory closing down of small shops and unprofitable factories.
