SHEFFIELD SHIELD MATCHES
SYDNEY, January 3, In a Sheffield Shield match today the 22-year-old Queensland wicketkeeper, Don Tallon, equalled the world's first
class cricket record by dismissing 12 New South Wales batsmen by either stumping or catching. Six were dismissed in each innings.
The record was established by E. Pooley * when playing for Surrey against Sussex at the Oval in 1868.
Close of play scores in the present series of matches are:—
New South Wales v. Queensland; at Sydney.—New South Wales 214 and 264 (Barnes 51, McCaffey 40, Gulliver 40, James 42; Ellis five for 67). Queensland 200 and 112 for none (Brown 78, Cook 30).
Victoria v. South Australia, at Melbourne.—Victoria 499 and 283 for seven, declared (Lee 51, Barnett 54, Hassett 64, Sides 61; Ward five for 126). South Australia 488 and 50 for none. Victoria won on the first innings.
