On the third day of the second cricket Test England's first innings score, was taken from 553 for eight wickets to 559 for nine wickets, when the closure was applied. South Africa had made. 213 for; six at stumps (Nourse not out 74). The weather was sunny and the wicket in good order when play was resumed this morning. .Wright (27) and Fames (1) continued their overnight partnership, but Wright was dismissed off the third ball of the day. The batting of the South Africans was oi a highly defensive nature, only 26 runs being scored in the first hour. Hammond fruitlessly and repeatedly changed his bowlers. Mitchell batted dourly for 255 minutes in scoring 42 runs. Nourse, however, and Balaskas (who hit Verity for four successive boundaries) livened up the batting towards the close. Details:— ENGLAND.
