AUCKLAND WOMAN'S LOSS

AUCKLAND, January .2. Prising open a wardrobe in a room occupied by the proprietress of the Kenilworth Apartments, in Shortland Street, a thief yesterday stole banknotes of a total value of £40. The proprietress, Mrs. M. Nairn, a widow, attended the races, leaving a young woman in charge of the house. The young woman left the premises at 5 o'clock, placing the key to the room under a cushion on a settee. Evidently the thief found the key.
