RAIL RESERVATIONS

So far complete holiday traffic figures are, not available for most forms of transport, but rough totals taken out for the Christmas period indicate the greater use made this year of air, rail, road, and sea transport sex'vices.

Railway reservations made at Wellington from the end of October to date show an increase 6*f 2400 over the figures for the corresponding period of last year. Another indication of increased holiday traveJ by rail is the greater quantity of luggage handled at the Wellington station. During the period, December 22 to December 24, the total number of packages handled was 11,200, which is approximately 700 greater than the number dealt with on the corresponding days the previous Christmas.

Commercial airways passengers arriving at or departing from Rongutai Airport during the four-day period, December 23 to December 26, totalled 73a, an increase,, over the previous Christmas period of 60 a day. The busiest day was December 24, when 317 passengers passed through Rongotai There were 190 outward passengers and 127' inwards On December 23 there were 105 inward and 91 outward, and on Christmas Day, when services were confined to the morning, 48 passengers arrived at the airport and 86 departed. On Boxing Day there were 76 outward passengers and 58 inward.
