ON TRENTHAM TRACKS

WAIRARAPA HORSES

SOME RIDING ENGAGEMENTS

(By "Rangatira.")

Trentham horses who raced at Awapuni have mostly gone on direct to Tauherenikau. There will be several fresh horses from the centre at the Wairarapa Meeting on Saturday and Monday, and also a couple at Marton, but very little serious work was attempted this morning, though the weather, was fine and the grass track in good order.

Sunee and Yours Truly will not be going to Tauherenikau. The former disappointed at Awapuni and the latter was galloped on. Two others who have returned direct to Trentham and will miss Wairarapa are Beau Vite and Lustral. ; Dungarvan is a doubtful starter on Saturday, mainly because he was weighted there prior to his continued moderate race form at Awapuni and his consequent drop in the weights.

j Siegmundhad a leg opened when he was galloped on at Awapuni. on Monday, but it is healing and he will probably still be. sent to Marton in company with Twenty Grand. No rider has yet been .engaged for either- of •these horses. White Lady is also on the easy list as a result of being galloped on.

Twenty Grand (R. A. Hawkings), picked up by Gothic (A. Sagar) at the three furlongs, was worked/over seven furlongs this morning, arid he went along well in recording lmin,32sec, the last half-mile in 53sec.

Mother-in-Law CF. Power) was the best galloper on the track this morning when leaving Linguist (Hawkings) at the end of five furlongs, the last halfmile in 50 2-ssec. Dorak (F. Goughj ran three furlongs up the back in 39sec, and Golden Hawk (Sagar) did the distance in 37sec.'/

Cherokee (J. Nicholson; was a length ahead of Pharisee (D. Lamb) at the end of five furlongs, the last half-mile in 53 2-ssec. Lady i Lyric (S.G.: Robinson) beat Happy Heels . (Hawkings) by a couple of lengths over six 1 furlongs in lmin 18sec, the last hal£*riile in 53sec. ... . /

Southern Blood, indulged in an: r escapade on the track at the. weekend. After finishing his allotted task, he decided that that was not eriough, A and he bolted five times round, which is about six miles, before he consented to be pulled up. .He has been back in work only about a month, but the gallop apparently did him no harm and he is to race on Saturday.

Among the riding engagements for Tauherenikau on Saturday are:—P. Burgess, .Stella Lux, Sigurd, Gaylord; S. Anderson, Daregain, Counter Lunch, Hinerawe, Trebor; A. E. Bennet, Roaming (if started in Cup), Lady Drake, Drachma; W. Doyle, Dorak or Floral Robe; C; P. Sheild, Alunga; A. W. Sim, Batsham; A. "Sagar, Golden1 Hawk; F. Power, Youssipof, Sceptre, Mister Quex; H. J. Callahan, Mother-in-Law; D. Lamb, Anita Foe, Dancing Flame, Gay Hunting, .Cherokee, . Southern Blood; W. J. Broughton, Lady Lyric; R. A. Hawkings, Happy Heels; G. R. Tattersall,- Punarua; J. Nicholson, Dark Water. : i

Peerless has been sent on to Ellerslie for the Great Northern Derby on Monday, but ho rider has yet been definitely engaged for her. Lady Baron is to race at the Hawke's Bay Meeting* where she will prpbably be ridden by R. Marsh. "■■ • ■ ..
