AUCKLAND AT TIMARU

TIMARU, This Day.
The cricket match, South Canterbury v. Auckland opened at Fraser Park under favourable weather conditions, the day being bright and warm. The wicket is in excellent order. The" visitors' side is regarded as being particularly strong, including Whitelaw, Fostles, Wallace, Vivian, Matthews, and Weir.
The home team won the toss and batted. The start was weak, Heasley being but before scoring. v
The score at noon was 27 for two wickets (Heasley 0, Dawson 4).
At the luncheon adjournment seven 1 wickets were down for 69 runs (Kane 11, Johnstone 7, Smith 33, Lang 1, Purcell not out 1, Wilson not out 0).
